ABOUT THE PTO
Our Mission is to enhance the education of our children and support the Boone faculty and staff through volunteering and fundraising. Through our partnership with the school, the Boone PTO organizes events for students and parents and provides both the volunteer staffing and monetary support to help HPISD close what would otherwise be an annual $5 million budget shortfall.
WHY WE FUNDRAISE
An estimated 70% of HPISD tax dollars are redistributed to other districts by the state of Texas via the “recapture” or “Robin Hood” legislation. This leaves HPISD with an estimated $5 million annual budget shortfall. By filling this gap with private fundraising, we are able to maintain our spending per child near the state average. Without it, we would have far less to spend per student than our neighboring districts.
The state’s tax recapture affects HPISD teacher pay as well. On average, our teachers make a few thousand dollars less in HPISD than they would if they worked in other DFW school districts. We support our teachers through our fundraising and volunteer efforts to make working in HPISD a wonderful experience. Our hope is for our district to be able to recruit and retain the very best teachers.
WHERE THE MONEY GOES
We completely fund the ongoing operations of the cafeteria, from the staff, to the food, to the equipment & supplies. Volunteers also contribute their time as servers and cashiers in the cafeteria, which saves the district almost $300K every year!

We fund the Spanish and Garden programs. We pay for instructional assistants for each grade level and educational software subscriptions for every classroom. We pay for classroom iPads, computers, other technology, educational books, and classroom materials.

TEACHER
SUPPORT
We give every teacher a supply allowance so our teachers don’t have to pay out of pocket to outfit their classrooms. We pay for teacher professional development every year to make sure our teachers are constantly learning and improving. We put on teacher appreciation events & give teacher gifts throughout the year. We even pay for copiers, toner, and work room supplies so our teachers have the resources they need!

OTHER ENHANCEMENTS
We host many fun events for our students and staff every year, including our family picnic, book fairs, read-a-thon, carnival, bike rodeo, and field day. We also help fund facility enhancements such as grounds beautification and playground equipment.
